The Pöstlingberg – Linz from above

The Pöstlingberg – although Upper Austria only borders to the south on the Alps, Linz has its own local mountain – the Pöstlingberg (Mount Pöstling). At its lofty height of 539 metres, this excursion mountain towers over the city on the River Danube. The Pöstlingberg mountain tram, Europe’s steepest adhesion railway, takes you there easily and conveniently from the city’s main square. Once you arrive at the top, you can see Linz from an entirely new perspective.

Next to the top station you will find the «Sieben Schmerzen Mariä» basilica with its distinctive twin towers, a place of pilgrimage that is clearly visible from the valley below. Fortified walls, a high altar, impressive organ and aesthetic sacral art await here.

Would you like to meet young artists and creatives? If so, we recommend a visit to the Anton Bruckner University. Young musicians, actors and artists are trained in this building that boasts a distinctive and singular architecture. The university offers guided tours and a varied programme with concerts, dance and theatre performances.

Several restaurants and guesthouses cater to your physical well-being on the Pöstlingberg. Why not treat your participants to an aperitif on Linz’s home mountain after your seminar, convention, meeting or congress?
